Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) Culinary & Wellness Services nurtures all students through access to quality food and active living. MPS Culinary & Wellness Services remains committed to supporting the wellbeing of our students, families, and staff during distance learning.

Opportunities to practice skills are critical for development, learning healthy behaviors, and creating a foundation for lifelong health and well-being. Discover ways you can integrate wellness into your day.

Wellness Wednesday. Each Wednesday the Culinary & Wellness Team shares an activity on social media (facebook & twitter) that encourages students to be active participants in safe routes, healthy eating, wellness in nature and more! See sidebar for the list of Wellness Wednesday activities.

Active Living | Safe Routes to School

Family walks and bike rides are great ways to stay active, de-stress, and get the 60 minutes of exercise that doctors recommend that children and teens get EVERY day. The MPS Family Walking & Biking Guide provides resources for route planning, safety, and activities to do along the route.

True Food | Farm to School | Healthy Eating | Gardens

Spending time in the kitchen and/or garden can be good for your body, mind, and soul. We encourage students to learn about food, nutrition and agriculture by providing opportunities for creative outlets, learning experiences, and life lessons.

All families are invited to pick up free school meal boxes for their children. School meal boxes contain seven breakfasts and seven lunches and meet Minneapolis Public Schools Culinary & Wellness Services’ (MPS CWS) high standards for nutrition and quality ingredients.

True Food, No Waste | Environmental Wellness

Learning lifelong skills on Reduce, Reuse, Recycle at a young age will ensure that these basics will become apart of everyday habits. Celebrate National Recycling Day on November 15, and everyday - every little bit helps! Another way to support environmental wellness is spending time outside in nature. It’s a great way to take care of yourself, and think about how you can also take care of the earth around you.

RESOURCE: Our new GreenCorps member that is available to assist schools with recycling education, resources, and data tracking.

Health & Well-Being | Social Emotional Learning

As we transition into the new normal, it is important to take time to be mindful and present - to keep oneself healthy by engaging in activities to support health and well-being. This can be a quick check-in on how you feel in this moment to integrating mindfulness throughout your day.

RESOURCE: Social Emotional Learning (SEL) supports students, staff, and families to develop the skills to understand and manage emotions and create and maintain positive relationships.
