MPS Culinary & Wellness Services hosts an annual Junior Iron Chef Competition to raise awareness for our district's commitment to healthy, fresh, scratch-cooked meals and excite students about good food and cooking! 

6th annual Junior Iron Chef Competition

When: May 27, 2020 | 5:30-7:30pm
Where: Chowgirls @ Solar Arts, 711 NE 15th Ave, Minneapolis, 55413
 
Join us for a night of true food, culinary teamwork, and exceptional cooking! MPS middle school students and professional chefs will team up for a top-chef style cooking competition. Teams will have one hour to prepare their dishes for the panel of judges, and the winning recipe will get added to the MPS school lunch menu! This year's competition theme is world flavors, so each team will be assigned a different world region to inspire the flavors and ingredients for their dish(es).

Calling all middle schools chefs!

Would you and your friend like the chance cook alongside a professional chef for a night? Have you ever dreamed of having one of your own recipes on the school lunch menu?

Apply to represent your school in Minneapolis Public Schools’ sixth annual Junior Iron Chef Competition on Wednesday, May 27th! MPS Culinary & Wellness Services will select five pairs of student from different schools to team up with local chefs and compete in this top-chef style cooking competition!

Teams will cook for a panel of judges, and the winning team’s recipe will get added to the MPS lunch menu. Who should apply?

  • MPS students enrolled in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade
  • Students interested in good food & cooking!
  • Students with varying levels of cooking experience will be considered. 
  • Student are strongly encouraged to apply with a partner! Selected teams will consist of two students from the same school and one professional chef.
