Free School Meals

Changes to MPS meal services for 2023-24!

With the introduction of the Free School Meals Law every student will receive one complete breakfast meal and one complete lunch meal each school day at no-cost. To view current menus click here.

• Adult meals and any additional purchases by students are not included in the Free School Meals Bill.

  • This includes staff meals, second student meals, and individual items such as just a milk or just a pizza.
  • These are not free and will need to be purchased.

• All students at MPS will still enter their PIN number in the meal lines.

  • PIN is the same as student ID.
  • Help students by practicing on the sample PIN pad found in the right hand column of this page.

• All households should still complete the Application for Educational Benefits (AEB) next school year.

  • The AEB is used to determine additional student and household benefits, along with school and district funding.

• There are several options with money remaining in your student’s LINQ account: 

  • Request a refund issued by check

    • Email info.cws@mpls.k12.mn.us with your student name(s), birth date, and mailing address.

  • Donate unused funds to cover negative student meal accounts from this school year.

    • Email info.cws@mpls.k12.mn.us with your student name(s) and birth date.

  • Leave funds in the account 

    • Can be used to purchase additional items not included in the Free Meals Bill.  

Eating school meals helps to support Minneapolis Public Schools and the greater community! The more meals that MPS serves, the better for the district. The same applies to other districts in Minnesota. We encourage all students to participate in the Free Meals Program by eating meals at school next year!
